New Year's Party
Had a great party with some select friends. Could get everyone in there due to numbers, but it was perfect. My wife made some LETHAL martinis!

Traveled down to FL to see my parents. Drove with my sister and wife. Long a$$ drive as my friends would say. It was good to be with family no matter what. Enjoy every minute of it that you can.
Saw the "Quidam" show last night. Unbelievable what those artist can do!
Had a BBQ party which was a great fun with my peeps. We laughed, ate, and drank to our hearts content!
Started a great training for serving on non-profit boards. I'm networking and expanding my knowledge, of course, but it's also a powerful feather in my cap. The United Way is a no joke organization despite it's past problems. It's got a lot of clout.
The TV arrived in the mail on Friday. Nice 27" Westinghouse. Basic HDTV monitor with a built-in standard TV tuner. Beautiful picture though. Well worth the price.
Simple event, just me and the wife. The decorations were fun to put up.
The house was packed. Donna was ridiculous! Great food, great drink, great times.
Spent our first Thanksgiving in our new home with the my inlaws. Simple meal and my wife was burnin' up a storm, esp. those sweet potatoes!
Closed on the house today...finally!
People have many misconceptions about the holiday. "X-mas" is bad because it omits Christ. Dec 25 is Christ's birthday. Etc.
I found a cool page on a more accurate rendition of the holiday.
Whatever a person's take on the holiday.
Merry Christmas!
Yesterday, my wife and I officially ended our house search and have begun that laborious process of negotiation and settlement. I can see why people feel so much stress. Any little thing can muck things up and "NO SALE!" We're keeping our fingers crossed.
Thanks be to God for all the blessings that I have and for those I might share now and in the future.
Apple had a good quarter!
For most of this week, I was visiting my best friend who lives in Hong Kong. I met some really nice, un pretentious people and basically just enjoyed the city. HK really is the New York of Asia. Lots of hustle and bustle. And the place is awash in cash. I've never seen such a density of E and S classes!
I had an emotional moment with my friend when we recounted the fact that we have spent half our lives enjoying our friendship and have come a long, long way. If you told us we would be sitting together looking at Hong Kong Harbor, receiving international cellular phone calls, we would have thought you were crazy. It felt good to come down through life like that together. [sniff sniff]
The West Indian Day Parade, or just the "Labor Day Parade" to West Indian New Yorkers, was today. Caught the front end and saw my parents this weekend. Very refreshing to see my family, esp. my brother who I haven't seen in a minute. (Hear that Ralph! ha ha)
Apple announced the new iMac G5 today and true to Apple form it's sleek and "enchanting" and has the predictable "wow factor" that boost sales and to the delight of Apple's investors, the share price.
Just downloaded NetNewsWire 1.0.8. It's a great RSS reader and blog editor. Definitely worth the $40.

Great sites for translating the special form of English that politicians use: Spinglish.
Simple title, very deep movie. Hero opened last Friday and I got a chance to see it yesterday. I can say that was someone who takes the Martial Arts very seriously, it was quite a touching film. It wasn't a tear-jerker, though some elements of the story could be called just that. It was much more a really good story that highlights certain existential questions that the arts IMHO attempts to answer. When the King Qin speaks of his realization at contemplating Broken Sword's actions, it strikes at that heart of what the journey in the Arts means: true peace. Through and through. Both without and within.
Go see it.
Yesterday, I finished my sixth and last class for beginning golf. I took Fundamentals and Short Game at my local golfing center. Boy do I Got It Bad. I love going out there and pounding those buckets into the fence or fighting it out on the chip-and-putt course. I haven't graduated to the Par 3 course yet as I score too many strokes on the chip-and-putt, but I'm getting there!

A few weeks ago, I returned to my dojang or martial arts school. Since then I realize (a) how much I missed training and (b) how good it feels to feel really, really healthy and strong. I am so glad to be back pursuing my black belt.
Time to wax patriotic and support our troops. Despite our problems, there is reason for hope. The greatest lesson I ever learned from African American religion is an important one for ALL Americans:
Though our country might exist in great evil, even be the cause of it, hope lies in freedom, justice, and equality. That's the promise of our country and it's worth celebrating.
Saw Fahrenheit 9/11 this evening. I have to say that it was a powerful film. Somethings I know are based on the liberal take: facts that can be used to support a particular point of view. For example, the seven minutes that Bush looked completely out of his depth when he realized the nation was under attack. Bush supporters will say he was projecting calm. Moore, of course, uses that moment to ridicule Bush. Anyone who has been in leadership position knows better: The man choked when it was crunch time. Doesn't make him a bad man or evil demon, but it does belie a certain incompetence. There are plenty of moments like that in the film. There are a few which indisputably completely castigate Bush by showing highlighting his elitist arrogance. Those who've seen the film will never forget the "Watch this drive" and "I call you my base" moments. Liberal or conservative, see the film before you make comments about it!
Michael Eric Dyson had some interesting words on this topic.
I just got back from my 10 year reunion at MIT. What a great experience that was. Catching up with old friends and making new ones. I'm kicking myself for missing my 5th year reunion. To all who were there with me this time: let's not lose touch again. It was great to catch up, but far better to stay that way!
Moved out from my apartment today. Now the whole MBA Chapter is officially closed. I moved to this apartment specifically to be close to school and enjoy convenience with respect to going to class. Bittersweet again. Lot's of fun times that are now fond memories.
Now, I'm moving in with my inlaws to save up for the First Home. Can't wait!
A moment of remembrance fro the sacrifice of my Uncle Errol in Vietnam.
Can you say REFUND?!?
Today in Dyson's class I had the distinct pleasure to meet with Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr. I admire the man who writes his soul on the line for all to see, attack, acknowledge, love, and hate. That takes courage. After reading their words this semester, getting to know them on a more personal level was truly an honor.
Enjoying a week "off." Spring Break is in full swing. Going to catch up on some rest and relaxation...
Watching Tavis Smiley's "State of the Black Family" on C-SPAN. Incredible stuff, year in and year out. Every black man, woman, and child should watch this event in its entirety. Matter of fact, white folk should tune in too! The self-reflection, spirit, love, anger, laughter, and upliftment was energizing and powerful. Luminaries abounded: Cornel West, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Micheal Eric Dyson, Ben Carson, and on and on.
Top quotes:
I love watching sports...live. Tonight I went to the Sixers vs. Pistons game and had a hollerin' and hootin' good time.
However, watching on this sport I so enjoy on TV just isn't the same. Though I love basketball and such, I'm no sports buff. I'll take Star Trek epsiode over watching a ballgame anyday. I prefer to play or be a spectator in a live performance. I wonder why that is?
I've tried to read the sports section in my WSJ, but get no satisfaction at all. As a consequence, I couldn't tell you the names of the players on my own team, save for Iverson, Snow, and maybe a couple of others. In the past, I felt a bit ashamed of that, but nowadays I simply know what I like about sports and what I don't.
Still, I'm going to bone up on some of the stats of these players. Then I can pursue my favorite sport of all: arguing!
My wife, Lisa, was recently appointed to Legal Counsel for the Pennsylvania chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. She wasn't expecting it which made for a wonderful surprise. I'm quite proud of her: my Strong Black Queen.
If this works...I will preach the MovableType gospel!
